NASA’s Mars exploration mission is now a hot topic among scientists and space fans. With various ambitious projects, NASA is trying to uncover the mysteries of the Red Planet. One of the newest missions, Perseverance, was launched in February 2020 and reached the surface of Mars in February 2021. This rover robot is equipped with advanced technology to search for signs of past life, as well as collect soil samples for study on earth. Perseverance is the largest robot ever sent to Mars, weighing about one ton. It is equipped with high-resolution cameras and atmospheric analysis devices that will enable risk reduction for future human missions. One of the innovative features of this mission is a helicopter drone named Ingenuity, which successfully carried out the first flight on Mars, marking a milestone in the history of flight on another planet. From initial discoveries, Perseverance found a lot of evidence of the existence of water on Mars, both in the form of traces of river flows and mineral deposits related to water. This discovery raises the possibility that microbial life existed in the past. The Mars sample project is also a major focus, with Perseverance collecting several boxes of samples that will be sent back to Earth via a future collaborative mission. Not only that, NASA also launched the Mars Sample Return (MSR) mission, which aims to bring Martian material to Earth. MSR plans to send a spacecraft capable of taking samples and moving them from the surface of Mars to orbit, where another spacecraft will bring them back to Earth. This mission is expected to be implemented in 2028. Apart from surface research, NASA is developing other projects such as the Mars Human Exploration Program, which is planned to send humans to Mars. The program involves developing more efficient launch technology as well as training astronauts to live and work in the extreme Martian environment. Recent developments also include improving our understanding of the Martian atmosphere. Data from Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) helps scientists understand how the planet lost most of its atmosphere, revealing a process that has been occurring for billions of years. This research is important for thinking about steps towards implementing human life there. NASA continues to collaborate with various international institutions to strengthen Mars exploration. This collaboration includes not only scientists, but also educational institutions and private companies. By sharing knowledge and technology, the potential for discoveries on Mars becomes greater, and brings us closer to the possibility of life beyond Earth. In the next few years, we can look forward to more exploration missions that will answer many questions about Mars. The new discovery will have a major impact on our understanding of space and the conditions that allow life on other planets. NASA, through its bold and innovative missions, remains committed to exploring Mars and providing new insights and inspiration for future generations.
