Global drought is one of the most pressing environmental challenges of the 21st century. The impacts are felt across multiple sectors, including agriculture, water supply and human health. In many places, climate change triggered by human activities is contributing significantly to increasing the frequency and intensity of droughts. The first impact of drought is a decrease in food production. Plants depend on water to grow, and when the water supply is reduced, crop yields are also affected. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), drought can cause losses of up to 30% of agricultural output in the most vulnerable areas. This creates serious food insecurity and increases global food prices, adding to the burden on communities already struggling to meet basic needs. Drought also impacts water quality. In dry conditions, some water sources become polluted. Communities who rely on wells for clean water have to deal with increasing concentrations of harmful substances, which threaten health, especially for children and the elderly. This problem is further exacerbated by the use of water for agriculture, which is often inefficient. In addition to direct impacts on food and water, drought can also cause social and economic shifts. People who depend on agriculture are often forced to migrate to find work in more fertile areas. This phenomenon can trigger social conflict and increasingly limited resource competitiveness. Water resource management is very important in facing this challenge. Investments in efficient water management infrastructure, such as drip irrigation and reservoirs, can help optimize resource use. In addition, implementing sustainable agricultural techniques and developing drought-resistant plant varieties can increase food security. Education also plays an important role. The public must be educated on ways of water conservation and sustainable agricultural practices. Educational programs in schools can increase awareness of the importance of natural resource management. The role of government and responsive policies is also very important in overcoming drought. Developing policies involving research and development of new technologies can increase community resilience to dry conditions. The establishment of regulations that support better management of water resources must also be prioritized. International community awareness regarding drought problems needs to be increased through global cooperation. International conferences and forums can be a platform for sharing strategies and experiences in overcoming the impacts of drought. Through collaboration, we can create effective and integrated solutions to reduce the impact of global drought and ensure the survival of future generations.
